Balloons and Cells

It has been a while and I wanted to give an update on what is going on in science. In 7th  grade we are cell parts and functions. Students have completed two online worksheets and done generalized drawing of plant and animal cells. We are now using micro viewers and microscopes (soon) to look at specific organelles and specialized cells. In 8th grade we are beginning the balloon project. Students have researched the history with Ms. McGuirl and surface area, volume, and net views of shapes with Ms. Goodburn. Now they have designed the balloon that they hope will win the competition based on the concepts learned in the other classes while focusing on density. We will be building out our ideas at the end of this week and beginning of next week. We will also have a guest scientist on Thursday to describe how density impacts the bay and works in fluids.
