This day is called the vernal equinox. This is when the season officially changes to spring and the sun is vertically above the equator and the day is longer than the night (because of how long daylight is).

The name of the Day is the Vernal equinox. It marks the Change from winter to spring. The days begin to get longer (or lighter, if you prefer) after this change. The Sun is position right vertically above the equator, causing the day to be longer. However, this day is not the longest day, for the summer solsctice is the longest day of the year. The intervals are every three months, and it starts with the winter scolstice.
