I will not be posting very often since I now use google classroom and ASPEN to communicate with students and parents. I do use the links in class and students can access data from home via the tabs. I'm looking forward to a great year!
Mr. Kaczynskihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12926422405383754905noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4303514957652979629.post-57482970830881160722018-09-04T19:55:00.002-04:002018-09-04T19:55:58.246-04:00Welcome Back!It was a hot start to the school year today! This is the first time I've had an early dismissal on the Day 1. I want to welcome Ms. Flanagan to our classes this fall to do her student teaching. It is an honor for her to have picked me as her mentor because she was a student in this class. She and I have been working hard planning fun lessons and activities. Seventh grade will be learning about the lab and safety while 8th grade will be starting a lab in a few days and learning about the coastal studies project and our creek visits.mr. khttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11622793775568153030noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4303514957652979629.post-42801865714180193232017-08-18T09:11:00.000-04:002017-08-22T07:29:48.234-04:00Prize Opportunity #3This Monday there will be a solar eclipse! While we are just outside the optimal viewing area, it will still be spectacular. Send me one fact about the eclipse and I will add it to this post as they come in. NEVER look directly at the sun!
Here is a website with a free app about the eclipse http://bit.ly/2w8FCF3
A few things to know about the science classroom:

Science binders stay in the room
Two pocket folders (or alternate system) leave the room for HW
There is no book to take home
Only water bottles are allowed in the room
Only pencils are used (no pen)
HW is posted on my HW blog as best as I can
8th grade will be walking to the creek for our year long Coastal Studies project
7th grade will spend a fair amount of time outdoors as we study the woodland between the schools
7th grade will sleepover at the Boston Museum of Science on May 7th and return to school on May 8Mr. Kaczynskihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12926422405383754905noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4303514957652979629.post-78821504849507597282014-08-20T12:25:00.001-04:002014-08-21T10:27:04.752-04:00Science Supplies for Fall 2014Hi everyone,
In 7th grade we are cell parts and functions. Students have completed two online worksheets and done generalized drawing of plant and animal cells. We are now using micro viewers and microscopes (soon) to look at specific organelles and specialized cells. In 8th grade we are beginning the balloon project. Students have researched the history with Ms. McGuirl and surface area, volume, and net views of shapes with Ms. Goodburn. Now they have designed the balloon that they hope will win the competition based on the concepts learned in the other classes while focusing on density. We will be building out our ideas at the end of this week and beginning of next week. We will also have a guest scientist on Thursday to describe how density impacts the bay and works in fluids.Mr. Kaczynskihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12926422405383754905noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4303514957652979629.post-78208289833343023942013-12-12T21:51:00.000-05:002013-12-12T21:51:01.846-05:00look up in the sky....
GEMINID METEOR SHOWER: Earth is entering a stream of debris from "rock comet" 3200 Phaethon, source of the annual Geminid meteor shower. In class we are working on classification and use of dichotomous keys. We are coming up to a 60 second science test at the end of the week. Two 8th grade classes have done some research on estuaries and rocky shorelines and have been learning how to graph using excel while the other has been investigating the amount of electricity used by electronic devices they commonly use. Plate tectonics will be entering our discussions and homework assignments.Mr. Kaczynskihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12926422405383754905noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4303514957652979629.post-77466420566765109002013-09-27T07:44:00.004-04:002013-09-27T07:44:57.375-04:009/27 classroom updateSeventh grade has begun its study of the woodland between the two schools and is currently starting a unit on classification where we will read about how scientists organize organisms from kingdoms to species along with naming systems. We will then use dichotomous keys to identify trees in our woodland study area.
Eighth grade is continuing to build knowledge of the procedures for data collection while also collecting some data about our Coastal Studies year long project. We are also introducing the properties of water and expanding our understanding of the metric system.Mr. Kaczynskihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12926422405383754905noreply@blogger.com0
